From ABC Australia:
Only last month, a Russian bomber flew very low over the Nimitz and other US warships when they were in international waters near Japan. According to Russian military analyst Pavel Felgenhauer, what Moscow is doing with these incidents is providing not a threat but a message. “The message that we’re back again, that we’re still a kind of something, a chip off the Soviet Union, we have the capabilities, we have those heavy bombers that can carry nuclear weapons, which other nations do not have, and that we should be taken seriously,” he told The World Today.

Apparently, Mr. Putin is sure that the only reason Russia lost the first cold war was a bit of bad luck, and he’s equally sure that Russia will get it right this time. One must wonder, of course, how Russia imagines it will be able to administer the entire world once it has conquered it, given the difficulty it has had with Russia itself, but undoubtedly Mr. Putin has that figured out as well.It is odd, though, that one can’t point to a single example of U.S. bombers buzzing Russian targets in this manner. Almost makes Russians seem somewhat uncivilized, but that must simply be ignorance on my part.
