The Russians are working hard on pushing the whole “Washington started the war to get McCain elected” angle. Anybody buying yet?

Certainly not Georgia — it has just broken diplomatic relations with Russia — nor America — it has issued a strong statement supporting the Georgian action.Putin has brought his nation to the brink of utter ruin just as the Soviets did, and it should surprise nobody since he is proud relic of that era.Russia stands utterly alone; even formal diplomatic recognition has begun to disappear. Other nations should join Georgia in repudiating neo-Soviet Russia, whose economy utterly depends on imported goods and foreign purchases of Russian fossil fuels and cannot withstand a concerted effort by the world to ostracize it.Putin’s pathetic yammerings fly in the face of indisputable reality. Even hardcore moderates like Fareed Zakharia are saying Russia “massively overplayed its hand.” Only the lunatics in the Kremlin see things differently, just as the Politburo always did.
