Ariel has no clue about Afghanistan. First of all, NATO wasn’t even in Afghanistan ten years ago. Second, NATO is failing in Afghanistan not because of insufficient military power but because it is politically clueless. Even the USSR handled Afghan politics better. Najibulla lasted three years after the Soviet withdrawl. Karzai would be dead far sooner if NATO pulled out.And yes, Russia’s leadership has learned that the West will swindle them if given a chance. And the West is very upset at not being given such opportunities any more. Hence all the vituperation directed at Medvedev and Putin.
