It is difficult to capture the drama from a trial on film, as things can move forward so slowly and arduously, that even the most wonky observers can sometimes have their patience tested, especially in a trial that doesn’t even make sense from the outset. That said, I think it is instructive to check out the body language of Procurator Dmitry Shokhin in this clip, responding to Khodorkovsky lawyer Vadim Klyuvgant.

At 1.31, Shokhin was saying something like “в Российской федерации, так не бывает…” I didn’t hear a reference to V. Putin. Maybe it comes at some other point in the video?
I listened to Shokhin’s words at 1:31 and also heard nothing about Putin and Khodorkovsky being personal enemies. What Shokhin was saying is of interest, however: He was berating the defense for having the audacity to want to “present the court information that is needed by the defense”. He went on to explain that “in accordance with world standards”, such things are simply not done, and that the “functions of the defense are separated from the functions of the dispensing of judicial proceedings”. What he actually meant was the “dispensing of justice”, but, as he so often does, he screwed up. Note how intently his colleagues are constantly shuffling papers and otherwise looking busy, in order keep themselves from laughing together with the audience.
Sorry guys, you are right … I was confused with another video. I have corrected the post.
