It is unfortunate how rare it is to get these kinds of reports from deep Chechnya. What we don’t know about what happens there could fill a sea.

All out war on Chechen rebels?Gosh, I thought Putin had solved the problem of Chechnya. Guess I was misinformed.
Indeed, any government always likes to say their opponents — rebels, revolutionaries, whatever — are “small” and “under control”. They are always “extremists”, nowadays “terrorists”. (I’m sure old Tsar Nikolaj would have said that about Lenin and his followers if the word “terrorist” were in use back then.)And of course they make it difficult for reporters to go there and report on what is happening. State secret, you know. You might be helping the rebels. You’d be sending the wrong message. You’d be “destabilizing the local situation” with your “alarmist reports” that are obviously intended as “propaganda” to “harm our country’s image (hail Kadyrov!).”Ah yes. Nothing new under the sun, indeed.
