Company Allegedly Linked to Gülen Movement Sued in Texas over Document Disclosure

The following press release was circulated to media today:

February 3, 2016 – The law firm of Amsterdam & Partners LLP has filed a lawsuit against Solidarity Contracting LLC (“Solidarity”) in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, demanding disclosure of records.

According to the complaint, Solidarity Contracting LLC, derives “all or a large portion of its revenue in the form of government funds from governmental bodies – in particular, charter schools.”

The lawsuit was filed after Solidarity failed to respond to a request for documents issued by Amsterdam & Partners LLP pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, without citing a proper exemption from disclosure under and the Act. The litigation is part of Amsterdam & Partners LLP’s ongoing investigation into the activities in Texas of the organization headed by Turkey’s reclusive Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen.

“Everything surrounding the Gülen Movement charter schools seems to be shrouded in secrecy,” said Robert Amsterdam, founding partner of Amsterdam & Partners LLP and the plaintiff in the lawsuit. “There have long been serious concerns that taxpayer funds received by Harmony charter schools in Texas are being misused through, among other things, self-dealing with affiliated contractors. This lawsuit is an effort to shine light on the relationship between the Harmony schools in Texas and their financial partners in the Gülen Movement.”

Amsterdam & Partners LLP acts for the Republic of Turkey in a global investigation into the alleged unlawful activities of Gülen’s business network. More information is available at https://robertamsterdam.com.
