Energy Blast – Nov 4, 2010

Russia’s Phosagro says it may put together a consortium with a rival bid for Canada’s Potash Corporation, after the Canadian government blocked a $39 billion hostile bid by BHP.  Russia and Qatar could adopt an Opec-style market model when they next meet to discuss joint gas production projects.  Reports suggest that Iran and Ukraine are both interested in developing cooperative operations for oil and gas extraction.  Despite a need for massive investment, the Caspian could be about to see an increase in oil companies’ operations, according to an upcoming report by the International Energy Agency.  The report (the World Energy Outlook) also suggests that governments need to support energy diversification and new energy policies, anticipating that oil demand could drop 10% by 2035 if they do, but that prices will spike if they don’t.
