Isn’t It About Oil?

It’s rare that one can appreciate a liberal opinion coming from the mouth of Vladimir Putin.  It’s rather easy for him to make the comments he did on Libya yesterday, given that Russia is rich enough in resources and local political clout to keep the coercive aspects of its energy trade from crossing over into the territory of military action, but all the same, it’s rare and therefore refreshing to hear an international leader telling it like it is:
“Libya has the biggest oil resources in Africa and the fourth largest gas resources,” Putin said during a news conference in Copenhagen. “It raises the question: isn’t this the main object of interest to those operating there.”
