Right in the same week that the police of the Interior Ministry are seeking to have a criminal case opened against the dead lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, it looks like the procuracy have been kind enough to dismiss charges against Vera Trifonova, a businesswoman who also died due to maltreatment in jail.
Isn’t that a nice gesture of forgiveness? An outstretched hand to the human rights community?
Clearly these prosecutions against murdered prisoners are intended to whitewash any potential liability on behalf of the officers and prison officials who actually killed these people, but it’s good to see that they only like to prosecute one dead prisoner at a time.
