In this video, Richard Edelman, the president and CEO of the enormous public relations firm Edelman, reacts to a question about the plummeting ranking given to Russia by foreign investors as published in the 2010 Edelman Trust Barometer. The PR exec is keen to emphasize that he sees this as a short term impression, and softens his words on Russia (with the likely goal of staying in business there). It seems to me that it’s irrelevant to talk about Pepsico’s investment in Russia when we have dead lawyers, murdered journalists, and stolen corporations – which might be an easier way to explain the sour outlook. Further, isn’t the real concern for business in Russia about nationalization and expropriation more than privatization?
